Sit down with a glass of the house and have a chat, why don't you? Work out plots with the other guests and maybe even make a few connections that'll last longer than this little holiday.

Macarthur's hotel.

What's a Hotel without a bloody bar? Nothing, that's what. You could say the rooms were an afterthought to the builders; because any man with sense in his head knows it's the pub that's the heart of a hotel. Taking up the entire ground floor, the Macarthur Hotel serves drinks to the parched - well, until six, that is. If you're after a room, reception's that desk in the corner.

There are rooms here, if that's what you want to call them. They're not that great - pokey little things, barely suitable for a drunkard. But there's also a restaurant, decked out in all the latest architectural fiddly bits, and between you and me, the chef cooks a mean steak. They've even hired some musical accompaniment! Listen closely, and you might be able to hear the sobbing of the dearly departed wailing in time to the jazz beat.

Ah, here's where the real rooms start. Enough to hold as many people as you can squeeze in; these are the cheap seats, still with original Victorian wallpaper. And, well, some have their Victorian residents still in there too, but keep hush hush on that bit.

The rooms for the connoisseurs! All newly renovated, each window guaranteed a view of the Harbour and the grand sight of the Coathanger, oh so close to completion. The landlord and his missus have their rooms on this floor too. And, well, even though they swear they've never had children... that doesn't stop people from swearing they've seen the little buggers, half starved and dressed in white.

Now this is a secret, and a big one at that; underneath the floorboards of Maccy's is a second bar, and this one doesn't have a last call, if you get my drift. If you want to get your hands on a good time after hours, this is the place to be; and if you just want to lie low from the law, or play a few cards under the table; well that's fine too. Don't ask, don't tell, everyone has a good time.

The rocks.

No New Posts ARGYLE STREET

Ah, the good old Argyle. The family-owned businesses, the tiny Victorian townhouses, the cobbled streets. This is the heart of the Rocks! Saunter in for a chat, grab a glass with your mates, watch as the children pay teir pennies and fill their pockets with sweets. Nothing sinister could possibly be lurking here! Well, nothing more sinister than the residents themselves, but what kind of local would be afraid of them? They're family.

The harbour is all ascrample, what with the Harbour Bridge being nearly finished and all. The shipments come in almost daily bringing in the metalwork; and there's still your usual haul of immigrants, goods and 'goods'. The wharves are crowded with desperate men after a bit of labour work - and they don't really keep a good eye on things. Some stuff is bound to get snuck in below the radar...

Things aren't as cramped here as they are down at Argyle; the houses are just a tad bigger, and there's just that little bit more space. The stench of the plague may still cloud some of the dingy alleyways, but all in all, this place could be considered rather pleasant. It's a shame all that construction is ruining the nice harbour views.

No New Posts OBSERVATORY HILL

If you're after someone with a bit of those book-learning brains in their head, the obvious place to go would be the Observatory, sitting high on its hill. They say there's a few more residents than just the astronomers and their stars, though; and hey. Old buildings do like to hold their fare share of secrets.

No New Posts THE ALLEYWAYS

The Rocks is more a hive than a coherent set of streets. Verandahs that double as bridges, gardens that are quite literally on the street; there are nooks and crannies everywhere, the curves of the sandstone walls and the uneven cobbles seemingly trapping some areas completely in the past. Why else would there be so many old-fashioned types floating around?

Sure, the Quay's just around the corner, but there are still some ships that like pulling up a bit further away. Ones carrying illegal goods, for example, or ones filled with people who would rather not be noticed by the guards at the docks. And then there is, of course, the Ghost Ship - but you don't believe in those sorts of things, do you?
